![]() I hope that you get the chance to try this place out. They are closed on Sundays and for several of the major holidays. Monday Steak Night, Tuesday Seafood Night, Wednesday Prime Rib, Thursday Baby Back and St Louis Robs, Friday Salmon, Fried Shrimp Catfish, and Saturday Crab Cakes Salmon. I cannot wait to go back and try out the other nights. So if you happen to be hungry when driving down the highway in Lancaster County and see the sign for SHADY MAPLE SMORGASBORD treat yourself and your family to an amazing meal and definitely gluttonous experience. So remember to save some room for dessert the selection was awesome. WOW! It being Amish country I expected cakes and pies but the puddings, egg custard, apple dumplings, apple crisp, mini eclairs, cookies, cookies and more cookies, soft serve with a good toppings bar. After our slightly gluttonous assault on the dinner buffet it was time for dessert. They had classics like Broasted Chicken which is pressure fries chicken, corn nuggets, fried zucchini sticks, mashed potatoes, roasted potatoes, broccoli, carrots, a salad station. I say almost symmetrical because there were some different items on the left side than on the right. Behind the grill stations they had an almost symmetrical buffet line. There were several beverage stations but my favorite is the real sugar Reading Draft Station which had old fashioned Sarsaparilla, White Birch Beer and Black Cherry available. Not frozen shell pizza either but rising crust style that could do an Italian grandmother proud. Also on the grill lines were the bread stations, petite baked potatoes and very good pizza. The southern ham was not over salted and very tasty. It was just as good or better than I have enjoyed at many restaurant that specialize in Prime Rib. The Prime rib was correctly seasoned and cooked. Unlike many buffets it had 4 specialty grill lines for the Prime Rib, Marinated Prime Rib and Fresh Cut Southern Ham. We were taken to our seats and then we assaulted the buffet. We waited in the first line about 12 minutes and then in the second for another 10 to 15. Each of these lines serves a different dining area and the place is massive. They take you from the cashier line and put you into one of the several dining area lines. You must have your whole group present to be seated and they will make you wait between the cashier at the front and the seating lines until you are assembled. There was a crowd but according ti the servers there is always a crowd and a small wait to get in. We went on Wednesday which is Prime Rib night. Nestled in farm country is a buffet that would do credit to the best of the ocean resort and even good casino buffets. A friend of my eldest son introduced him to this wonder and last night I got to experience the majesty of it myself. Signs on the highway modestly advertise The Shady Maple Smorgasbord "Lancaster County's LARGEST Smorgasbord" But this only tells you part of the story. In the middle of Lancaster County their is a treasure that is well known by locals and becoming better known by travelers. But the food is plentiful, with a good assortment and delicious. ![]() Overall it is a great place to eat, however a little out of the way, and a little high-priced. I also noticed, later, on my receipt that a tip is added on. We opted for Wednesday for lunch, which was around $13 per person. Tuesday night was seafood night, and was around $24 per person. However, I suggest checking their web site, as I noticed that dinner prices vary, depending on what they are serving. Lots of desserts, including fresh pie! I highly recommend it. There are different kinds of meats served from the grill or at the buffet tables - mostly Amish/Family-style food, but some unexpected. There is plenty of seating and plenty of food and drinks (i.e, soda, juices, milks). The building is huge and nicely decorated. The selection of food, drinks, and dessert is incredible! This is definitely the biggest and one of the best, if not the best, buffets (smorgasbords) that I have ever eaten at (and I have eaten at many across the U.S. We have visited the Shady Maple Smorgasbord buffet twice - once in 2012 and again in 2014.
